ID-10089855A poor hiring choice isn’t the end of the world, but it can certainly set you back in a number of ways. Sometimes it sets you so far back that you no longer desire to hire anyone ever again, even though you may be currently shorthanded. However, someday you will have to get over the fact that you made a few bad mistakes and will have to get back into the hiring game. Here are two tips you can use as you consider the next employee to join your company.

Give Your Candidates a Trial Test

Once you know your candidate is prepared to take on the job you have to offer, and you’ve reviewed his portfolio and read his resume until your eyes hurt, then it’s time to send him on a  test run. Sometimes this problem can be a problem your other employees have already solved, and you just want to see how he does it. Sometimes that problem is a hypothetical situation and you just want to see how he works it out. Either way, give him a task, and make him solve it without your help.

Figure Out How Your Potential Employee Used to Behave

Of course, you can always ask a large survey of questions to figure out how someone thinks, how they feel, and how they approach work and life. But finding the right tool to see how they have acted in the past can be a little more difficult. The important part is that you pick a tool you find appropriate and that you think will effectively evaluate a new member of your team. The best way to test such a tool is to use it on your current team to see how they perform. You can then compare their performances to the new candidate’s performance.
