Sometimes companies think that once they’re established in the market as a company that does good things or has a good reputation, they can stop working on their brand meaning and name. They begin to work on other projects and neglect their brand all together. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case most of the time. When people don’t hear about new things from a company, they often assume the worst, and sometimes they’ll even start to say the worst, too. They’ll talk about how you aren’t keeping up with new green initiatives, or how you haven’t spoken to a customer on Facebook about his or her problem. Eventually, your brand won’t be in your control anymore, and you’ll soon regret the fact that you ever decided to walk away. Here are some other reasons it’s important to stay active in the development of your brand.

Someone Else Will Manage It

Like what we said above, if you don’t manage your brand, someone else will. People will start to think what they want and say what they want about your company instead of letting you have the final word (or a word at all). It’s important to counter this before it happens, because eventually, something bad will happen and you’ll be left with a bad reputation with no way to control it. If you consistently work on making your brand a positive force in the minds of the consumers that know about it, when something bad DOES happen, it will be much easier to pick up the pieces.

Your Competition is Free to Say What They Want

A couple of years ago, Taco Bell was accused of using fake beef in their tacos. If they hadn’t been paying attention or tilling the image of Taco Bell in the minds of the people who went there, it could have been disastrous. Instead, Taco Bell stood up for the company and told everyone that yes, in fact, they DID use real beef in their tacos. They made an entire campaign out of it, and brought many loyal fans into the fold simply for managing their brand and image. It was almost too easy to counter the claims of fake beef, but only because Taco Bell has been working on their image for years.
